I recently hauled this. Well not recently. It has been over a month and I think it's time to express my opinion. This was an impulse buy. It was by the register and I just could not help myself ! I must warn you though, this ain't going to be entirely positive...eek!
- Kitten Shimmer - This shade is a Sephora exclusive. It's basically a liquid form of their Kitten eyeshadow which I do not own. Though the eyeshadow is much more pink toned, this one is definitely more of a gold tone champagne color. This one was was okay. It wasn't anything special. Although I think this might be a Stila fan favorite.
- Rose Gold Shimmer - This shade is more of a pink with gold shimmer. It reminds me of Nars Orgasm blush or the illuminator. When I swatched it on my arm and didn't blend it out right away, it left a pink tint on my arm. Not sure if that's a good or bad thing. I thought this was going to be my favorite but it's not. I actually like the Kitten Shimmer more than this.
- Bronze Shimmer - Now, this one is surprising my favorite. I really thought I wasn't going to like this one. It's a light bronze shade with golden shimmer.
I'm pretty sure you can click on the picture if you want a closer look. L-R || Kitten Shimmer, Rose Gold Shimmer, Bronze Shimmer |
The positives.. I like the packaging. It's one of the little details that caught my attention. I like the tube and the little nail polish applicator. I like how there's a rose gold shade and how they also incorporate kitten which is their most popular shade.
Now onto the negatives. I hate the formula of this. It's very shimmery. It's very noticeable and something maybe dance performers or cheerleaders would wear. It is blend able but when I used my fingers to apply it, most of the product will be left on my fingers and not a lot of product transfers on my actual face ! Ugh ! I hated that.
And the worst part, I think this somewhat broke me out on the right side of my face because I noticed that I broke out on the spot I placed this on. It didn't harm the left side of my face so I don't know if it's just me but this was the only thing different that could have possible caused it.
Now, of course I was going to compare it to Benefit High Beam. I own a tiny sample of High Beam from a set that I got last summer. It was a set with High Beam, Benetint and Posietint. Love them all. So I compared many aspects to that set since this definitely reminded me of it. High Beam has a very subtle shimmer and gives a natural glow unlike the Stila ones. The Stila set is $20 and the Benefit set from last summer was $15. At first, I didn't mind until I realized how much more product was in the Benefit samples than the Stila's. That was when I knew this little Stila set was not worth it !
As you can see from the picture above, the Benefit High beam has 4.0mL/0.13 fl. oz. and each luminizer in the Stila set has over less than half of how much Benefit had. And I got that Benefit High Beam along with Benetint and Posietint and all three of them had the same amount of product all for $15. The $20 Stila luminizer set came with 0.05 fl. oz./1 mL each. Benefit is winning. HOWEVER, the regular size of the Stila Luminizer is 0.05 more than the any of the Benefit ones. I checked the Sephora website and a regular size of the Stila luminizer is $20 as oppose to Benefit's regular sized luminizers and tints which retails for $26.
Overall, I don't recommend these. Although they are still a good deal, I still much prefer the Benefit illuminators to these. The Benefit ones are a better product over all. These all have golden shimmer which is another thing that didn't make them all that special. But anyway, this will definitely be going back to the store. However, I really do like bronze shimmer and am considering purchasing but I might check out the new Benefit Sun Beam first :)
What do you think of these Stila Shimmer Liquid Luminizers?
